After 14 years as a successful TV weatherman, I've found my new passion in web development. I'm a recent graduate of The Iron Yard where I studied front-end web engineering. I love coding and creating things and never want to stop learning. When I'm not programming you can find me surfing, golfing or exploring the world. But really, most of my free time is spent with my amazing wife, son and dog. I am a family man.

SurfSUP
A super cool social web app for surfers and paddle boarders where you can create and organize surf and paddle board sessions with your friends. Plus local surf, weather and tidal information.
What is SurfSUP?
SurfSUP is a responsive social web application for surfers and paddle boarders. It allows users to create and coordinate surf and paddle board sessions with their friends for anytime in the future.
Problem/Solution
Who likes group-texting? SurfSUP eliminates the need for constant and disorganized group texting. It will help you become a better planner and bring you together with your friends more often doing what you love. Plus, this app will help you find new friends in the process!
Weather, Surf & Tidal Data
Once logged in, the homepage displays the latest weather, surf and tidal data for the next 24 hours for select beaches. This of course is very important when planning your surf or paddling sessions. All weather and surf data is being dynamically created through the Magic Seaweed API and tidal data is brought in via the World Tides API.
Adding Sessions
The most important feature of SurfSUP, adding sessions, allows you to schedule as many outings as you want well in advance. Here you can toggle between a surf or paddle board session, choose on a google map exactly where you are planning on going, give a detailed description of your spot as well as the date and time you are planning on getting in the water. Once you hit submit, your session is added and you are immediately directed to the sessions page.
Sessions Page
Here is where all your future planned sessions are stored in chronological order. You will also see all of your friends planned sessions along with who is going and the option to join that session. This is the beauty of our app right here. You may not know everyone going to a particular session but since you are friends with the session creator you will now meet up with potential new friends.
Friends Page
All of your current friends are listed here along with a search bar to search for new friends. Each friend displayed is clickable and links directly to their profile page. On the profile page you have the option to add that friend. This will send a friend request to that user in which they will be notified in the top right corner of the app window. Once selected they have the option of denying or accepting that friend request.

Never lose touch with what's going on in the world with this convenient news application that taps into the New York Times API. Believe me, it's pretty handy.

While working as a TV meteorologist for WCSC-TV in Charleston, SC I designed and created custom weather grapics on a daily basis. Most of the graphics you'll see here I designed and created myself with WSI Weather Software.
